Tell Me Why (Sports Edition)

Share

Occasionally I post a blog of some quick hit topics that puzzle me. My hope is that one of you will respond and offer illuminating insight on the issue.

Major League Baseball recently announced attendance figures for the 2011 regular season and for the first time since 2007 the league actually had an increase. It was up only about one half of one percent but that’s still good news for a sport that’s had declining popularity. Even with the increase, though, average ballpark attendance is still 8% below 2007’s all time high.

Bubba’s Choice

Share

If you follow college football or Major League Baseball, you’ve probably heard of Bubba Starling. The 6’ 5” 195 pound multi-sport athlete from Gardner, KS signed a letter-of-intent to play football for the Nebraska Cornhuskers in February of this year and then was drafted as the fifth overall pick in the June amateur draft by the Kansas City Royals.

This placed him the enviable position of choosing between playing quarterback for a premiere college program (while also being a center fielder for the Huskers’ baseball team) or getting a 7 figure signing bonus from a struggling baseball franchise that has a stable of promising young stars.
